Teachers of Go

Apparently, in some place in Vermont, USA, the world's second-ranked female professional go player (Feng Yun) gave a lecture, a demonstration and simulataneous games. O_Scientist (of Go Shodan Challenge fame) was there and got a game. Lucky girl.

Meanwhile, back in the Republic, our visiting Japanese go teacher looks like he's gonna stick around and teach us (well us being Johannesburg, Pretoria, Soweto, and, if they're good boys and girls and don't leave him in a ditch, bloody and alone, desperately trying to light his last Mild Seven with a cracked butane lighter, Cape Town and Stellenbosch) how to play this game. That's good, because I don't have a clue.

  • Your visitor is Aketa Sensei, yes? What a great guy - he stayed at my house for a few days when he came to Virginia. I always regretted not showing him more hospitality; glad to hear he's continuing his peripatetic go lessons.

  • Yeah, that's him. He is a great guy, and we've enjoyed having him so far. We do need him, as the go world here is a bit small and inward-looking.
